ESONN’24 | Summer School in Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies: Registration Open Until May 12th !
ESONN’2024 is a specialized two-week summer school in the field of nanosciences and nanotechnologies designed for graduate students, postdoctoral researchers, and young scientists. For this edition, it will offer a series of lectures, academic seminars, and practical courses in Grenoble. These sessions will be conducted by renowned experts covering various aspects of nanostructure design, characterization, and applications. Hands-on laboratory work will be conducted to provide participants with tangible experience in the field
Several lectures and practicals offered by ESONN are closely related to PEPR SPIN exploratory program aiming to innovate energy efficient and sustainable digital applications and devices through emerging and promising topics, such as exploring two-dimensional (2D) materials and van der Waals heterostructures towards novel functionalities thanks to the controlled tailoring of their properties.
In this context, ESONN’24 participants will be first invited to “A journey through some of the physical properties of 2D materials” guided by Dr. Johann Coraux from Institut Néel (CNRS) during which they will learn details of structural, mechanical, electronic, optical and magnetic properties of these nanoscale materials
Next, Prof. Stephan Roche from Catalan Institute of Nanoscience and Nanotechnology (Barcelona, Spain) will explain how spin and charge transport mechanisms in 2D materials based nanostructures (including spin-orbit based spin-charge interconversion and proximity effects) can be exploited towards building efficient spintronic devices, in his lecture “Spin Physics and Spintronics in van der Waals Heterostructures: From Fundamentals to Applications”.
Finally, Prof. Guillermo Villanueva from EPFL (Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne) will give his lectures on bottom-up and top-down aspects of nanofabrication technologies that will be in particular used to elaborate 2D materials, and there is also Laboratory practical offered by ESONN on growth by van der Waals epitaxy and characterization of two-dimensional transition metal diselenides ensured by Drs. Matthieu Jamet and Frederic Bonell at SPINTEC.
