Discover in video, the Magnetic exhibition by Hélène Fischer at La Rotonde in Saint-Étienne
Magnetism, one of the fundamental pillars of spintronics, remains often unknown despite its omnipresence in our daily lives. Yet, it significantly influences various aspects of our existence. Therefore, the SPIN Research Program has traveled to Saint-Étienne, at the cultural site of La Rotonde, to explore it and film some of the immersive experiences for you
Magnetic is an exhibition founded within the Jean Lamour Institute (IJL), a joint research unit of CNRS – University of Lorraine, by Hélène Fischer. Today present at La Rotonde in Saint-Étienne, it has also been installed in Rennes. Through experience, manipulation, and observation, MAGNETIC offers an interactive dive into the principles, history, and effects of magnetism.
With 5 sections and around sixty experiments developed by the experimental design support structure of the IJL, visitors are invited to question their knowledge and explore the various properties and applications of Magnetism, from the simple refrigerator magnet to recent discoveries in this field, thus engaging them in the scientific process and perpetuating the spirit of discovery embodied by Jean Perrin in our modern era.
But then, what is the connection between Magnetic and our SPIN Research Program?
MAGNETIC highlights the latest innovations in these areas, stemming from ongoing research. It also provides an opportunity to raise awareness among the public about crucial contemporary issues related to magnetism. Indeed, electric mobility and wind energy rely heavily on the use of powerful magnets. Similarly, resolving the energy challenges related to information storage will likely depend on the development of nanomagnetism and spintronics.
