Review of the first Franco-Taiwanese Scientific Research Symposium in Taipei
On April 29-30, 2024, Lucian Prejbeanu, co-director of the SPIN Research Program, participated in the inaugural Franco-Taiwanese Scientific Research Symposium held in Taipei under the patronage of the Taiwanese and French Ministries of Higher Education and Research. Approximately one hundred people were in attendance, including 30 members of the French delegation
After the historic signing of a convention on science and technology in late 2023, these symposiums laid the groundwork for close collaboration aimed at strengthening cooperation in six strategic areas, including semiconductors, quantum technology, and artificial intelligence.
Over the course of two days, the French delegation, including Claire Giry, Director General of Research and Innovation at the French Ministry of Higher Education and Research, and Franck Paris, director of the French office in Taipei, was warmly welcomed by Tsung-tsong Wu, the Taiwanese Minister of Research. These meetings facilitated in-depth discussions and reflections on six key areas, such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, quantum technology, and cybersecurity.
Lucian Prejbeanu had the opportunity to present the promises of spintronics for low-power, agile, and sustainable electronics. Spintronics was indeed recognized as a privileged topic in this context, and this new impetus for collaboration will deepen the already existing ties between the French and Taiwanese scientific communities.
We extend our thanks to our Taiwanese counterparts for their warm welcome, fruitful exchanges, and excellent organization by the National Science and Technology Council of Taiwan and the French Office in Taipei.
