SKYMAG2024: A review of this year’s edition
SKYMAG2024, organized in the framework of the PEPR-SPIN moonshot project CHIREX, took place in Paris from 28 to 30 October. This was the 4th edition of the series of workshops, started in 2014 and dedicated to the advances in the field of topological magnetic textures, in particular skyrmionics textures present in both thin films and chiral crystals
SKYMAG2024 has gathered 100 participants mostly from Europe but also from Africa, Asia and the Americas. It featured an exciting program comprising 19 invited talks, 14 contributed talks and more than 40 posters presented by a large number of PhD students.
Ten years after the first edition, SKYMAG2024 has highlighted that a large progress has been carried out towards the use of skyrmions in logic devices, nonvolatile memories and non-conventional computing. Beyond the improvement of skyrmion thin film materials, several speakers have shown that synthetic antiferromagnetic and ferrimagnetic stacks now appear to possess the best dynamic properties in view of applications. The fast development of sophisticated imaging techniques has allowed progressing towards the understanding of the stabilization of novel 3D topological textures such as hopfions, skyrmion tubes or cocoons. A large emphasis has been given to new metastable skyrmion lattice phases in chiral magnets such as Cu20Se2O3.
The workshop was a resounding success, evidenced by the participants’ enthusiasm and the quality of the in-depth discussions around the posters, which covered a diverse range of topics and encouraged constructive exchanges. The discussions continued on Tuesday evening during a boat cruise on the Seine, providing participants with a unique tour of Paris and its iconic landmarks.
