Project Manager
Jean-François Dayen, Professor at Strasbourg University

The MULTISPIN project studies the fundamental spintronic properties of van der Waals multiferroic heterostructures and their application in multiferroic magnetic tunnel junctions (FMTJ) as well as memory logic circuits. These heterostructures offer high-quality interfaces without epitaxial strain and great flexibility in combining ferromagnetic materials, paving the way for innovative properties and major advances in spintronics
Challenges
> Engineering high-quality atomically sharp multiferroic vdW heterostructures.
> Large-scale passivated multiferroic van der Waals heterostructures.
> Theoretical modeling and experimental measurement of the spin transport properties of van der Waals multiferroic heterostructures, including the interface coupling, spin polarization, and magnetotransport behavior.
> Device modeling and circuit design of disruptive Logic-In-Memory circuits based on vdW FMTJ.
Positioning the project with the PEPR
The MULTISPIN project establishes strong relationships with several programs of the PEPR SPIN, including SPINMAT and SPINTHEORY, by developing new magnetic materials and multiferroic heterostructures. It also promotes the creation of bridges between the different programs of the PEPR, such as ADAGE, to foster interdisciplinary advancements. Furthermore, MULTISPIN collaborates with projects from the PEPR AI (EMERGENCE) and PEPR Electronics (CHOOSE, EMCOM, ADICT), aiming to develop advanced memory devices and in-memory computing solutions. These interactions strengthen the link between spintronics, artificial intelligence, and the electronics of tomorrow
